Red Devil's Food Chocolate Fudge Cake

Total Time: 1 hr 10 mins Preparation Time: 30 mins Cook Time: 40 mins

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup buttermilk or 1/2 cup sour milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 lb powdered sugar
  • 1 cup coconut
  • 6 tablespoons milk
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 cup nuts, chopped

Recipe

  • 1 disolve soda in milk and vinegar; set aside.
  • 2 mix sugar and shortening until creamy then mix with eggs and vanilla.
  • 3 sift flour with cocoa and baking powder.
  • 4 mix dry and liquid ingredients together, except the food coloring and water should be added last.
  • 5 bake at 375, for 15 to 20 minutes in a 9x13 pan.
  • 6 frost with chocolate fudge icing:.
  • 7 five minutes before cake is done, place margarine in saucepan; bring to boil, stirring constantly.
  • 8 remove from heat; add remaining ingredients.
  • 9 beat well and spread on hot cake.
