Red Devil's Food Chocolate Fudge Cake

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup buttermilk or 1/2 cup sour milk
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 cup cocoa
- 1 teaspoon red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon vinegar
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup boiling water
- 1/2 cup margarine
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 lb powdered sugar
- 1 cup coconut
- 6 tablespoons milk
- 4 tablespoons cocoa
- 1 cup nuts, chopped
Recipe
- 1 disolve soda in milk and vinegar; set aside.
- 2 mix sugar and shortening until creamy then mix with eggs and vanilla.
- 3 sift flour with cocoa and baking powder.
- 4 mix dry and liquid ingredients together, except the food coloring and water should be added last.
- 5 bake at 375, for 15 to 20 minutes in a 9x13 pan.
- 6 frost with chocolate fudge icing:.
- 7 five minutes before cake is done, place margarine in saucepan; bring to boil, stirring constantly.
- 8 remove from heat; add remaining ingredients.
- 9 beat well and spread on hot cake.
