Mom's Banana Devil's Food Cake

Ingredients

  • Servings: 12
  • 2 cups cake flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup shortening or 1/2 cup lard
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup mashed ripe banana
  • 2 ounces baking chocolate, melted and cooled
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Recipe

  • 1 sift together flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder.
  • 2 cram shortening, add sugar and cream together until light and fluffy.
  • 3 add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • 4 add banana pulp, then melted chocolate.
  • 5 combine milk and vanilla.
  • 6 add dry ingredients alternatly with milk mixture to the creamed mixture, beat well.
  • 7 pour into a greased 9x13 pan, bake at 350f for 45 minutes.
